12/3/19 Update
Happy December!!
Interactive Modeling: Over the last few weeks, we have been doing a lot of interactive modeling. Interactive modeling involves the teachers modeling what expectations they want to see throughout the day by the students. This could include, but not limited to: line basics, cafeteria basics, before/after school basics, bathroom basics, fire drill basics, assembly basics, etc.. After the teachers model, students share what they saw during the teacher model. Following that, a few students model the expected behaviors and we reflect on what they noticed from the student models. Lastly, the entire grade models and practices the said expectations. Just yesterday, students practiced hallway basics and cafeteria basics, and prior to Thanksgiving Break, students practice hallway basics, bathroom basics, and before school basics.
MAA Character Day: We finalized our last Character Day the day prior to Thanksgiving Break. Students really enjoyed having Mrs. DeMaster come in. The last character day focused on responsibility, having discipline and self-control. Many students, if not all, have received a karate belt keychain along with a red stripe. The belt and stripe represent their ability to be responsible and be focus. The last behavior is focusing on "How you act and behave is up to YOU and the choices that YOU make! Challenge yourself to show improved behavior!" If a student receives three teacher signatures, he/she will earn a MAA Character School certificate.
Holiday Concert: 5th grade's holiday concert is at 1:30pm and 6:30pm on Tuesday, December 10th. Students will not be allowed to leave after the concert that occurs during the school day as there is still learning to take place after the concert.
Holiday Class Party: 5th Grade's Christmas/Holiday parties will occur from 2:00-3:00pm on Friday, December 20th. Those on the party committee will be given reminders closer to date!
NO SCHOOL: 12/23/19-1/1/20; school resumes on 1/2/20
DECEMBER LATE STARTS: Only on December 4th and December 11th

MAA Character Day: Tomorrow, November 15th, students will participate in their second Character Day presented by Mrs. DeMaster from Martial Arts America. Tomorrow's concept will be on focus and concentration. The last character day will be on Tuesday, November 26th with a focus on responsibility (discipline and self-control).
Human Growth and Development: A letter will be sent home next week informing you about Human Growth and Development. It will take place on Monday, November 25th in the afternoon. Please be on a lookout for a letter that will supply you with more details.
November 26: This marks the end of the trimester. Students will be part of a PBIS assembly that day. In addition to that, students will get to select a free book provided by Mrs. Nolan on this day too. For 5th graders, it will be a "homeroom" day so we will not be changing classes. Also, report cards will be coming home the first week or two of December (a date hasn't been decided on).
No school: November 27-November 29th! For those that celebrate Thanksgiving, enjoy your time with your family. Please know that we are extremely thankful for each of you!
Deer of Fame: For the hunters out there, Mrs. Judas will be displaying a "Deer of Fame" wall during the 2019 gun-deer hunting season. If you or your student tags a deer, please print off a picture and have your student bring it in to put up on the "Deer of Fame" wall.

10-30-19 Update
MAA Character Day: Today, 5th grade students participated in our first Character School presented by Mrs. DeMaster from MAA. Today's concept was on respect. Students will receive a respect card to keep at school. If a teacher catches a student being respectful, then the teacher will initial the card. Students are working towards a belt keychain. They must get three initials. The next two classes are 11/15, and 11/26.
Fidgets & Toys: Thank you for discussing our fidget concerns with your student. We have noticed a significant decrease in the use of fidgets. With the Roar Store now open, we are still asking that student keep the fidgets they buy from the Roar Store (slime included) in their backpack as these are too much of a distraction.
Veteran's Program: Clay Lamberton's Veteran's Day program will be held on November 11th at 8:30am.
Subject Areas: Please check out the tabs above to get an update of what's been happening in each academic area. Students are working hard on a daily basis, and it's humbling to see the process they have been making.

10-16-19 Update
Parent/Teacher Conferences: Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held this Thursday from 12:30 pm-8:30 pm. The 5th-grade teachers will host their conferences in the big gym to allow parents/guardians to see when they are available as they are accepting walk-ins, but their priority will go to the parents/guardians that signed up.
Each teacher will have their own table. We'll have small signs as a reminder for what subject area we each teach. If you have any questions for teachers outside of your homeroom teacher, please feel free to approach us if the sign on our table reads "OPEN for walk-ins".
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday. Thank you for making your child's education a priority.
Fidgets and Toys: After deep consideration, we have decided to no longer allow fidgets and toys in the classroom. We have witnessed fidgets turn into toys which causes a distraction for many, even the teachers. Therefore, starting Monday (10/21), students will no longer be allowed to bring any toys or fidgets into the classroom. The fidgets/toys include stress balls, squishies, cars, toys, marbles, bouncy balls, etc.; it is just too much.
The only fidgets that will be allowed in the classroom are the ones that the teachers provide to the students. We apologize for any inconvenience, but thank you for understanding.
MAA Character Day: Marital Arts America is offering a free Character School and we have decided to be part of this. We are very excited as students will learn about life skills such as respecting self and others, focusing and concentrating, and responsibility. These will take place during the following school days: 10/30, 11/15, and 11/26.
Halloween/Fall Party: 5th grade's Halloween party will take place on October 31st from2-3pm. Students are only allowed to wear their costume during the party and should not wear it to school. Fake weapons of any sort and fake blood or gory objects are prohibited. In addition to that, we also are not allowing face paint to be applied at school either. Committee Party reminders will be sent home closer to date.
Human Growth & Development: The introduction to Human Growth and Development - Grade 5 will take place on November 25th. More information and a parent/guardian letter will be sent home closer to date.
