Reading
10-17
As I sit here at Parent Teacher Conferences, I am so glad that so many of you came to meet with me and conference about your student's learning! I loved meeting everyone and I hope that I answered any questions you may have had about our reading unit.
We have been working in Book Clubs and focusing on Author's Purpose, Theme, and Perspective lately. All of these things will come up at the end of the unit when we take our Post-Assessment.
A few important things to know. Even though we will be starting a writing bend on Tuesday, students are still expected to read out of their book club books each day. Student have been assigned a certain number of pages that they have to read per day. This will need to be completed by the time we get back to our reading bend on October 31st.
Just a note, our post assessment is on November 8th.

Goodness! I cannot believe it is already October! We are well on our way in reading and I am so excited about it.
Level testing has begun and I am very excited to continue to get to know all the 5th graders better as readers and writers. We are in Writing class this week, but starting next week Wednesday we will be back to Reading. We are currently working on looking at the perspective of a story, and how it can affect what we are reading. We are also looking at why the authors makes the choices that they do, and how that can communicate different emotions through the story.
Book groups will start soon, and you might have a student bring home their book club book to make sure that they are caught up for the next meeting. Please know that they only homework that students will bring home in reading is if they have not finished something in class that they were given plenty of time to do. So if a student is bringing work home, then they did not use class time wisely.
I can’t wait to see more of how your students continue to learn and grow as readers! -Mrs. Nitzke
